In cooperation with the company Art Rebel 9, which created an adventure exhibition about the Carniolan bee for CBH. We captured a series of images of this honey-bearing insect with a scanning electron microscope at the Nanocenter. Among other things, we also captured footage of the varroa (Varroa destructor), a parasite from the mite subclass that attacks bees. Varroa is also a big problem in Slovenian beekeeping, as it is known that the hive does not survive without medicines (acarcides). Only female varroas (pictured) suck blood from bees. They are up to 2 mm in size and characteristic red in colour.
